Making Society — Do Language Models Reconfigure the Social World?

In winter 2026, Jean-Philippe Magué, visiting researcher at CRIHN, will organize a lecture series on LLMs with four invited speakers.

The final session, titled “Making Society — Do Language Models Reconfigure the Social World?”, will take place on Monday, March 30, 2026, from 3:30–5:00 PM (Montreal time), with Anne Alombert (Philosophy, Paris 8), in a hybrid format.

Session description:

LLMs are now deployed across multiple spheres of social life, from research to everyday communication. They form an emerging discursive infrastructure that affects the circulation of knowledge, the distribution of epistemic authority, and power relations in symbolic production. This session will examine the social consequences of this transformation.
